Text Hash Generator — MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512

Type or paste text to generate its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 hashes instantly, computed with your browser's built-in Web Crypto API — useful for quick data-integrity checks, generating a deterministic ID from a string, or verifying a hash you were given.

How to use Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Read all four hash outputs, updated live.
  3. Copy the hash you need.

Frequently asked questions

Which hash algorithm should I use?
SHA-256 for anything where correctness matters. MD5 and SHA-1 are shown for compatibility with legacy systems but are cryptographically broken and unsuitable for security purposes.
Is this the same as file hashing?
No — this hashes the text you type directly. For hashing an actual file's bytes, use a file checksum tool instead, since text encoding can subtly change the hash.
Can I hash a password with this for storage?
No. Raw SHA-256/MD5 hashing is not safe for password storage — use a dedicated password hashing function like bcrypt or Argon2, which are deliberately slow to resist brute-force attacks.
