SMD Resistor Code Decoder — 3/4-Digit & EIA-96 Codes

Enter the tiny code printed on a surface-mount resistor to decode its actual resistance value — covering the standard 3-digit and 4-digit numeric codes as well as the more compact EIA-96 letter+number system used on higher-precision SMD resistors, which is not decodable the same way as the simpler numeric codes.

How to use SMD Resistor

  1. Enter the code printed on the resistor.
  2. Select the code type if not auto-detected (3-digit, 4-digit, or EIA-96).
  3. Read the decoded resistance value.

Frequently asked questions

How do the standard 3-digit and 4-digit codes work?
Like capacitor codes — the last digit is a power-of-ten multiplier applied to the preceding significant figures, so 103 means 10 × 10³ Ω = 10,000 Ω = 10 kΩ.
What is EIA-96 and why is it different?
EIA-96 uses a 3-character code (two digits plus a letter) referencing a standardized lookup table of 96 values rather than encoding significant figures directly — it is used on smaller precision resistors where space for a full numeric code is limited.
How can I tell which code type I'm looking at?
A code ending in a letter is EIA-96; a purely numeric 3 or 4-digit code follows the standard multiplier system — this tool auto-detects based on that pattern.
