JWT Generator — Create an Unsigned or HMAC-Signed Token
Build a JWT by entering your own header and payload claims, then sign it with an HMAC secret (HS256) to produce a real, verifiable token — useful for generating test tokens for local development and API testing without standing up an auth server.
How to use JWT Generator
- Enter your payload claims (sub, exp, custom fields).
- Enter your HMAC secret.
- Generate the signed token.
- Copy it for use in your test requests.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this safe for production tokens?
- For local testing and development, yes. For production, generate tokens server-side where the signing secret never reaches a client or browser at all.
- Which algorithms are supported?
- HMAC-based signing (HS256) is supported, covering the most common case for test/dev tokens. RSA-signed (RS256) tokens need a private key pair rather than a shared secret.
- Can I set an expiry claim?
- Yes — set the exp claim to a Unix timestamp, and any verifier checking expiry will reject the token once that time passes.
