Palette Contrast Tester — Check an Entire Color Palette for A11y
Enter your full color palette to see every foreground/background combination checked against WCAG contrast requirements at once, in a grid — instead of testing one pair at a time, which misses combinations you did not think to check when a palette has more than a couple of colors.
How to use Palette Contrast Tester
- Enter your palette colors.
- Review the full contrast grid — every pairing checked.
- Identify combinations that fail WCAG AA or AAA.
- Adjust colors that fail.
Frequently asked questions
- Why check the whole palette instead of one pair?
- A design system with 6+ colors has dozens of possible foreground/background pairings — checking them one at a time as you happen to use them misses combinations that only surface later, often after launch.
- What contrast ratio do I need for WCAG AA?
- 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text (18pt+ or 14pt+ bold) — the grid flags which pairings meet or miss each threshold.
- Does it check AAA as well as AA?
- Yes — both thresholds are shown so you can decide which standard your project targets.
